MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – An early morning fire on Steiner Road in Manchester injured two people on Tuesday.

At approximately 8:53 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Steiner Road in the Holly Oaks section of the township for a structure fire. 

Captain Vincent Manco, a spokesperson for the Manchester Township Police Department, said two occupants of the residence had self-evacuated upon arrival, as smoke and flames were observed emanating from the rear exterior of the residence.

A 17-year-old female occupant suffered smoke inhalation.

Caroline Karmazin, the 75-year-old owner of the residence, sustained minor injuries while attempting to contain the fire.

Manchester Emergency Medical Services transported both to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus after suffering smoke inhalation and a minor burn to her hand.

Both victims were transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus by Manchester Emergency Medical Services.

Manchester police officers used fire extinguishers in an attempt to contain the blaze until firefighters arrived on the scene.

According to an initial investigation, the fire may have been caused by improperly discarded smoking materials into a trash can.
