90-year-old man killed in South Dupont Highway crash

FELTON, DE – The Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Felton Sunday morning where a 90-year-old man was killed.

On Saturday, at approximately 10:29 a.m., a red 2012 Ford Focus approached the intersection of South Dupont Highway and Midstate Road. During this time, a white Acura RLX was stopped at the red light on westbound Midstate Road waiting to turn left onto southbound South Dupont Highway.

“A red 2012 Ford Focus was traveling northbound on South Dupont Highway approaching the intersection at Midstate Road. At this time, a white Acura RLX was stopped at the red light on westbound Midstate Road waiting to turn left onto southbound South Dupont Highway,” DSP said in the crash reported. “The red light turned to a green arrow for the Acura, and the green light turned to a red light for the Ford. The Acura began to turn left, but the driver of the Ford did not stop for the red light and continued northbound. As a result, the Ford struck the driver’s side of the Acura, causing both cars to come to a stop in the intersection.”

According to the DSP, injuries were reported, including one fatality.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 25-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, was not injured. The driver of the Acura, a 66-year-old woman from Felton, Delaware, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The front-seat passenger of the Acura, a 90-year-old man from Farmington, Delaware, was also taken by ambulance to an area hospital for his injuries but died later in the afternoon. Identification of the victim is pending notification to his family and relatives.

During the investigation and cleanup of the scene, the roadway was closed for approximately one hour. There were no other vehicles involved in this accident.
