Good Samaritan scammed out of $5,700 trying to help man who claimed he was locked out of house

NEW YORK, NY – A Greenwich Village man thought he was helping out a man in need but instead was robbed of $5,700 after letting the perpetrator use his cell phone.

The man approached the 21-year-old male victim and asked him if he could use his phone to call a locksmith, claiming he was locked out of his house.

He asked his victim if he could use his money to pay for the service and ended up transferring $5,716 to an unknown bank account from the phone before fleeing.

The individual is described as a dark-skinned male approximately 25-30 years of age, 5’10” tall 180 – 200lbs and was last seen wearing a green jacket with orange letters and black and orange sneakers.
