UTICA, NY – Detectives with the Utica Police Department were able to identify a registered sex offender as the suspect in a reported rape incident that took place Wednesday.
At approximately 4:00 PM on December Wednesday, Utica Police officers were informed that a sex crime investigation had occurred on Bleecker Street, 600 block.
In the victim’s testimony, she described being physically grabbed by an unknown male in the 600 block of Bleecker Street and forced into an apartment building nearby.
Upon being forced to perform sexual acts against her will by the male, the victim stated that he held a screwdriver to her neck and forced her to do so. As a result of the male allowing the female to leave, the female immediately contacted the police.
Based on the victim’s description of the male and the apartment in question, the Utica Police Investigator who oversees the Sex Offender Registration Unit believed he was able to identify the suspect as this party was currently under his supervision as a Level 2 offender.
The victim was immediately able to identify this male as the offender upon viewing the photo array.
The Utica Police Patrol and CID units attempted to locate this suspect, however they were unsuccessful until the male surrendered to the Utica Police Department around 2:00 a.m.
Don Williams age 36 of Utica was charged with Rape in the first degree, Strangulation in the second degree Unlawful Imprisonment in the second degree.
