ELKTON, MD – A traveling nurse visiting Maryland for work from Atlanta stopped at the Elkton Wawa to buy a scratch off ticket and found herself with a $30,000 winning ticket.
“People should listen to their feelings,” she said, explaining that’s how she ended up with the hot instant ticket. The 38-year-old visited a Wawa in Elkton to buy a few instant tickets but needed to retrieve cash from an ATM.
She asked a friend to wait by the machine while she went to the ATM because of her lucky feeling. Shaunett didn’t want anyone else to use the machine until she could! She quickly returned and bought two of the $3 SKEE-BALL instant tickets.
“The second one was the winner!” she said.
According to the Maryland Lottery, “Shaunett Wright was stationed in northeastern Maryland at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and bought her winning scratch-off just as she was preparing to return home before her next assignment in the Virgin Islands. She made a special trip to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Dec. 13 to claim her prize.”
“I’ve been everywhere. I usually play scratch-offs all over,” she said. The happy winner planned to buy more games before leaving Maryland, too.
