Police say driver in road rage incident, assault was DUI

MILLSBORO, DE – Police investigating multiple motor vehicle collisions in Millsboro today said the driver of a van involved in both incidents was impaired.

According to the Delaware State Police, following a collision investigation in Millsboro, state troopers arrested 53-year-old Steven Shores for assault, DUI, and other traffic-related offenses.

According to police, on Friday, at approximately 4:54 p.m., troopers responded to John. J. Williams Highway and Silicato Drive for a reported hit-and-run collision.

According to the investigation, a Land Rover, driven by a 69-year-old man from Lewes, was stopped in the westbound lane of John J. Williams Highway.

“A Ford E-150 van was traveling westbound on John J. Williams Highway behind the Land Rover and failed to stop for traffic. As a result, the front of the van collided with the rear of the Land Rover. The driver of the van, later identified as Steven Shores, confronted the driver of the other vehicle,” the DSP said in a statement.

Shores threw the man onto the road, got back in his van, and fled the scene in a westbound direction along John J. Williams Highway.

Shortly thereafter, the van collided with a utility pole while passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone on John J. Williams Highway near Gull Point Road.

Upon arrival at the secondscene, troopers observed signs of Shores’ impairment. He was taken into custody without incident. Several vehicles were damaged as a result of this collision, including a Honda Accord and a Lexus RX.  The driver of the Land Rover was treated at an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no additional injuries reported as a result of the collisions.
