UPDATE: This piece has been updated to reflect new information regarding the identity of the attacker.

A home intruder was trying to find House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when they assaulted husband Paul early Friday morning, a source told CNN.

The attacker, who San Francisco Police Chief William Scott identified as David DePape, 42, has been charged with crimes including attempted homicide, assault with deadly weapon and elder abuse, according to USA Today. DePape reportedly broke into the couple’s San Francisco residence while the Speaker was in Washington D.C. with her security detail.

The source claimed the intruder yelled, “where is Nancy, where is Nancy?” when they confronted her husband, according to CNN.

The individual assaulted Paul Pelosi using a hammer, sources told the outlet. The attacker was brought into San Francisco Police Department custody, and their motives came under investigation, Capitol Police announced.

“Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery,” Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill announced in a statement Friday morning. “The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time.”
