TOMS RIVER, NJ – A controversial newsletter published by the Township of Toms River has been mailed to residents. Dubbed the “Toms River Current” it is the township’s first forray into the print media and newsletter business.

The newsletter was approved by the township council this past summer at a cost of $19,00 to print for each quarterly edition. Postage for the newsletter will be $7,000 per quarter.

The total contract award for the mailer approved by the township was an open-ended $37,930 deal.

“The purpose of the newsletter is to improve the Township’s communication with all residents–to better inform you of the services and opportunities your municipal government provides, to address the challenges we are facing as a community, to highlight many of the great things happening in town, and to celebrate the wonderful people who are making those things happen,” according to township pubic information officer Art Gallagher.
