FORT MEYERS BEACH, FL – Two large Galapagos tortoises were rescued by deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in storm-ravaged Fort Meyers early this morning.

Lee County Deputy Jim Vanpelt assisted in the rescue.

At this time, it is unknown whether or not the tortoises belong to a Sanibel Island family that reported two of their own were lost during Hurricane Ian.
