New York, NY – A 69-year-old woman was killed in front of Yankee Stadium Thursday morning in a hit-and-run collision. The woman was driving her Mitsubishi Outlander on River Ave southbound when a BMW X6 crashed into her vehicle around 5:30 AM on Thursday in front of Yankee Stadium.
According to the New York City Police Department, the woman in the vehicle was passing through the intersection on a green light when the other vehicle crashed into her, running the red light on the opposite side of the intersection.
The driver of the other vehicle and two passengers fled from the scene and ran down the street, but they were captured on multiple stadium security cameras.
The woman was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released. Police investigating at the scene found twelve catalytic converters in the trunk of the car. Police believe the group of individuals are suspected in stealing the car parts overnight in unrelated cases. Police said the BMW involved in the crash was not reported stolen and are investigating the license plate number found on the vehicle to see who owns the vehicle.
