Two Juveniles Arrested for Carjacking in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – Two teenagers were arrested for an attempted carjacking Tuesday night in Wilmington.

Delaware State Police have arrested a 14-year-old juvenile male and a 16-year-old juvenile male both of Wilmington, DE for robbery and related charges following an attempted carjacking that occurred Tuesday night.

According to police, at approximately 6:37 p.m., in the parking lot of Wawa, located at 2621 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, two juvenile males approached an 18-year-old male victim who parked his vehicle and was walking into the store, when they asked for a ride.

“The victim refused and then went into the store to make a purchase. As the victim exited the store, he was approached by the suspects a second time. The suspects then demanded the victim’s car keys and implied they had a weapon. The victim complied, gave the keys to the suspect, and ran into the store to report the incident to the security guard,” police reported. “Prior to the suspects driving the vehicle away, the security guard ran to confront them in the parking lot. The suspects exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot.”

With the assistance of New Castle County Police, the suspects were apprehended on Maple Lane behind the store.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

The two juveniles were transported to Troop 1 where they were each charged with the following crimes:

  • Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)

The 16-year-old juvenile was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $42,000 secured bond.

The 14-year-old juvenile was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $22,000 secured bond.
