Allegany County Deputies Make Drug Bust on I-68

ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD – A West Virginia man was stopped by police in Allegany County for a routine traffic stop that led to a fentanyl and gun charge.

According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday , at around 12:40 am, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling Eastbound, on Interstate 68, near the 50 mile marker.

“Upon making contact with the operator, Deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, Deputies located a quantity of fentanyl, and a loaded Springfield Hellcat 9mm handgun,” the sheriff’s office said. “Additionally, Deputies located packaging material and various controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia which further indicated an intent to distribute the fentanyl. A large sum of U.S. currency was also located, which is believed to be derived from the sale of controlled substances. It was further learned that the operator, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was prohibited from possessing firearms due to past felony convictions.”

Pursuant to the investigation, Deputies arrested and charged Sonny Ralique Baxter of Wheeling, West Virginia was process and charged for illegal gun possession and CDS possession.
