TOMS RIVER, NJ – The Toms River Little League Girls Softball All-Stars return home as state champions, going further than any other Little League softball team has gone in the Jersey Shore’s District 18.
After an opening round victory against Georgetown Little League from Delaware 6-2, it was that same team that sent the girls home in a revenge re-match on Wednesday. Georgetown defeated Toms River 16-3.
That was the second loss for Toms River in the double-elimination tournament. On Tuesday, they lost to Delmar Little League of Maryland 6-1.
Tough opponents outscored the girls from Toms River 22-4 in those two losses.
Still, the girls return home as New Jersey State Champions, a feat usually reserved for Robbinsville Little League, which has perennially won the title. Bragging rights will remain in Toms River as the league re-entered Little League Softball tournament play last year and took the mantle from local perennial champion Holbrook Little League of Jackson.
