NEWARK, NJ – Two men have been arrested for an armed carjacking and stabbing of a victim in Newark on July 8th.

According to Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave III reports, Marvin O. Benitez-Argueta, 24, of Newark and Miguel A. Granados-Cabrera, 21, of Linden, were both arrested and charged for carjacking a victim who was also stabbed during the incident.

“Police responded to the incident, which occurred around 3:20 a.m. as the victim was sitting in his vehicle in the 300 block of Oliver Street,” Malave said. “After Benitez-Argueta and Granados-Cabrera opened the driver’s door of the vehicle, one of them grabbed the victim by his hair while the other grabbed the victim by his neck and pulled him out of the car. The victim tried to run away, but he was stabbed when the suspects pulled out a knife. They jumped in the victims’ vehicle and drove away westbound on Oliver Street.”

At 5 a.m., Granados-Cabrera carjacked another victim in the 200 block of Ferry Street.

The victim exited the vehicle and his car was driven away northbound on Ferry Street. Granados-Cabrera was also charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
