Suspect Arrested for Stabbing Newark Man, Stealing His Cell Phone

NEWARK, NJ – Over the weekend, a Newark man was stabbed and robbed for his cell phone. Today, Interim Newark Public Safety Director Raul Malave announced the arrest of Dwight Peebles, 25, of Newark, in connection with that incident on Sunday.

“At midnight, Police responded to University Hospital where a male victim was being treated after he was robbed and assaulted in the area of 14th Avenue and Newton Street. The suspect was approached by three males who assaulted him, stole his cell phone, and stabbed him with a knife. The victim was driven to the hospital by friends and is reportedly in stable condition,” the Newark Police Department reported.

Detectives investigating this incident identified Peebles as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Peebles was apprehended in the 200 block of West Runyon Street and arrested without incident. He faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy.
