NEW YORK, NY – Five people were ejected from a boat when it exploded Friday afternoon in Long Island sound off the coast of Queens.
The New York Fire Department’s 4th Marine Company responded to the scene, battled the fire and provided treatment to the victims.
“While underway Marine 4 was advised that five people had been ejected from the vessel and had been taken to shore by civilian boaters where they were treated by EMS,” the New York City Fire Department said in a statement. “Once on scene, Marine 4 surveyed the area for any additional victims and began to extinguish the fire which had fully consumed the vessel.”
The day wasn’t over for the maritime units of the FDNY.
Later in the afternoon, Marine 4, Marine 6 and the Marine Battalion were assigned to assist with a junkyard fire in the Bronx. FDNY Marine Units were able to pump water from the Harlem River and extinguish pockets of fire in which the land units could not reach.
