CUMBERLAND, MD – On Saturday, the Cumberland Police were called to a residence on the 900 block of Gay St for a report of a possible burglary in progress. The female caller advised that a male had been banging on her door and had made entry.

“While in route, Officers were advised that the suspect was fleeing the scene. An Officer observed a male subject run from the area and enter a vehicle. The vehicle then left the area with no headlights,” police reported. “Believing this to be the suspect, the Officer conducted a traffic stop and contacted the operator, identified as Vorreze Ricardo Thomas, age 40 of Upper Marlboro, MD. Additional Officers responded to the residence to speak with the complainant.”

Through the investigation, it was learned that the victim was familiar with Thomas. He had made threats of harm towards her and arrived at the residence and forced his way inside. Once the victim called the police he fled the scene and was apprehended a short distance away in his vehicle.

Thomas was charged with Third Degree Burglary, Fourth Degree Burglary, Malicious Destruction of Property, Disturbing the Peace, and Trespassing. He was taken to Central Booking for his initial appearance with the District Court Commissioner and was held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
