New York City Firefighters Rescue Dog Thrown Off Harlem River Bridge

NEW YORK, NY – Firefighters aboard Marine 4 patrolling in the Harlem River rescued a dog that was thrown off a nearby bridge.

According to police, when police arrived, the dog was in distress and a good samaritan was in the river trying to keep the dog afloat.

“Marine 4 responded to a report of a dog that was thrown off a bridge into the Harlem River and was in distress,” FDNY said in a statement. “Upon arrival, Marine 4, led by Lieutenant Sodano, saw a civilian clinging to the dog from shore, attempting to keep it afloat.”

FDNY said members from Marine 4 were able to bring the dog on board the vessel and take him to shore, where he could receive the necessary care.

“Without the quick response from both the civilian and FDNY members, the outcome for this animal could have been very different,” the department said.
