Man Charged for Criminal Sexual Contact While Victim's Child Was Present in West New York

WEST NEW YORK, NJ – A Hammonton man has been charged for an unwanted and unsolicited sexual encounter with a woman in West New York.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, On Sunday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Rogelio Rendon-Mejia, 42, of Hammonton, for committing an unspecified sex crime against a woman in West New York.

“The crime occurred in the early morning hours of July 10, 2022, following a gathering in an apartment on 51st Street. The victim was not known to Rendon-Mejia and her 7-year-old son was present at the time the crime occurred,” Suaraez said.

Rendon-Mejia is charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a, a crime of the third degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in violation of 2C:24-4a(1), a crime of the third degree. He was arrested at the West New York Police Headquarters and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
