One Person Dead in Single-Vehicle Crash in Damascus

DAMASCUS, MD – One person has been reported dead in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning in Damascus, according to detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU).

At approximately 8:15 a.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 28540 block of Ridge Rd. for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

“The investigation by detectives has determined that the driver of a black 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Ridge Rd. when he, for reasons that are still under investigation, crossed the northbound lanes, left the roadway and struck a tree,” police said.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

“The passenger in the Toyota Camry suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” police reported. “The decedent is a 45-year-old male from Winchester, Virginia. The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of the family.”
