MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Manchester Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that left four injured Tuesday evening. This incident happened on State Highway 70 and County Route 571 at approximately 6:03pm.
According to police, ” Upon arrival, officers found a 2021 Honda Accord facing east in the intersection with extensive passenger side damage and a 2022 Subaru Outback facing west in the eastbound turn lane with extensive front-end damage.”
The police investigation concluded that the Honda was in the eastbound turn lane on State Highway 70 attempting to make a left hand turn onto north County Route 571. The Subaru Outback was heading west on 70 as it entered the intersection. The Accord began to make a left hand turn as the Subaru entered the intersection. The Subaru hit the passenger side of the Accord making it rotate forty-five degrees making it facing east in the intersection. The Subaru, after the impact traveled west to it’s resting place facing west in the east bound turn lane of State Highway 70.
Police say, “The driver of the Honda, was identified as 79 year-old, Dominic Tobacco, and also inside the vehicle was 77 year-old Justina Tobacco, both from Manchester, NJ. Mr. Tobacco had a complaint of pain
and was transported to Community Medical Center for further evaluation. Mrs. Tobacco suffered possible head trauma and was transported via Medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for further evaluation. The driver of the Subaru, was identified as 74 year-old, Charles Jannetti, and also inside the vehicle was 72 year-old, Janet Jannetti, both from Manchester, NJ. Both occupants of the Subaru were transported to Community Medical Center for complaints of pain. Assisting at the scene were EMT’s from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and fire fighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company and Manchester Volunteer Fire Company.”
The intersection was partially closed during the investigation, and cleanup.
The investigation remains under investigation, but police believe that at this point, “failure to yield to oncoming traffic appears to be the contributing factor.”
The Manchester crash is currently being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety section.
