ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – A 14-year-old Atlantic City juvenile was arrested on gun charges and two adults on drug charges as a result of a May 31st shooting investigation by police detectives here.
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, on May 31, at 9:33 PM, patrol officers responded to the first block of South Florida Avenue in reference to a report that someone was shot. Responding officers arrived and located a male shot multiple times.
“The victim, 29, of Atlantic City, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of his injuries. An investigation conducted by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit led to the identification and charges against a 14-year-old juvenile,” police said “On June 10, 2022, at 8:30 PM, Special Investigations Detective Christopher Dodson observed the juvenile suspect in the first block of south Florida in the company of a group of males.”
Police said, with the assistance of additional patrol units, that the officers converged on the group.
“Three males in the group ran from the officers. After a short foot chase, Detective Dodson and Sergeant Garry Stowe apprehended the 14-year-old wanted juvenile,” the department said. “In the immediate vicinity of where the juvenile was apprehended, Detective Dodson located a loaded handgun fitted with a high capacity magazine.”
The handgun was also determined to be a “ghost gun”, a firearm that lacks a serial number rendering the weapon difficult to trace.
Police reported that officer Ivaylo Ivanov apprehended Genesis Silva, who was found to be in possession of 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale containing a white powdery residue, and $2,891 in US currency believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Officers Wahab Malik and Atiqul Islam apprehended Juan Antigua-Silva, who was found to be in possession of 24 grams of suspected heroin, 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and a digital scale.
The teenager was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a high capacity magazine, and possession of a “ghost gun”.
Genesis Silva, 24, of Atlantic City was charged with possession of CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS, and resisting arrest. Juan Aquino-Silva, 23, of Atlantic City was charged with possession of CDS (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute CDS (2 counts), possession with intent to distribute CDS in a school zone, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
The juvenile was remanded to Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Facility. Silva and Aquino-Silva were issued summonses pending future court dates.
