Lakewood High School Put on Lockdown After Report of Man With Assault Rifle

LAKEWOOD, NJ – On Tuesday Lakewood High School was placed on lockdown after the report of a man in a pickup truck with an assault rifle was near the school.

Lakewood police said the call came in on Tuesday just before 5 pm.

That report, police said, was unfounded.

“We received a call from the Howell Police Department in reference to an individual who reported that he witnessed a male exit a red pickup truck with an assault rifle near the Lakewood High School,” the Lakewood Police Department reported. “As a result, a lockdown of the high school was implemented and a systematic search for any possible threat was conducted with negative results.”

Upon completion, the lockdown was lifted and several patrol units remained on scene until all students and staff ended their day.

“Although this matter was determined to be unfounded, the Lakewood Police Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our children, teachers, and administrators,” the department said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lakewood Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-363-0200.
