29-Year-Old D.C. Man Killed in Hit and Run

PALMER PARK, MD – A man walking on Burnside Road on Saturday was struck and killed by a passing vehicle that later fled the scene, the Prince George’s County Police Department said on Monday.

According to police, 29-year-old Sean Smallwood, a resident of Washington, D.C. was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that between the hours of 11:00 and 11:30 pm, a vehicle was traveling in the 7700 block of  Burnside Road,” PGCPD said. “The driver of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, who for reasons that remain under investigation, was in the roadway. The striking vehicle did not remain on the scene of the crash.”

Police said Smallwood was taken to an area hospital, where he died a short time later. On Sunday, officers were dispatched to the hospital, and an investigation into the collision was initiated. According to witness accounts, a dark-colored vehicle was observed in the area at the time of the collision.
