KENT COUNTY, DE – It might be legal to carry a loaded gun into a closed park at night in Wyoming, but in Delaware, it’s not.
According to the Delaware State Park Police, on Monday, a State Park Officer arrested Daniel P. Patterson, 23, of Camden, Wyoming, for felony firearm possession.
“Patterson and another male subject were contacted by the officer for trespassing in Killens Pond State Park after sunset; Delaware State Parks are closed at sunset,” the agency said. “Patterson and the second subject were located in the parking lot of Picnic Area B at approximately 9:45 p.m., two hours after sunset. During the contact the officer observed the distinct shape of a firearm concealed in the front pocket of the hooded sweatshirt worn by Patterson. Patterson was taken into custody and the firearm, a Sig Sauer, was found to be loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.”
Patterson was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm (Felony), and Enter/Remain On Closed Lands Without Permission (Misdemeanor). Patterson was released on $2,500.00 Unsecured Bond pending a Preliminary Hearing.
A second subject was cited for Enter/Remain On Closed Lands Without Permission (Misdemeanor), and released from the scene.
