Pennsylvania Duo Charged for Weapons and Drugs During Routine Traffic Stop in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – Two men have been arrested and charged for weapons and drug violations following a traffic stop on Sunday evening.

Accoring to the Delaware State Police, at approximately 8:51 p.m., a trooper on patrol in the Wilmington, area observed a black Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound Interstate 495 in the area of Cauffiel Parkway.

“A traffic stop was initiated and the trooper made contact with the occupants, which included 26-year-old Shawn Taylor of Houtzdale, PA and 25-year-old Naim Abdullah of Aston, PA,” police said. “Upon contacting the occupants, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle’s interior. A subsequent search of the Challenger led to the discovery of approximately 0.68 grams of marijuana and a loaded Springfield handgun. Computer checks of Taylor and Abdullah revealed that both subjects were convicted felons prohibited from possessing a firearm.”

Taylor and Abdullah were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1, where they were both charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony), Possession of a Firearm While Possessing a Controlled Substance (Felony), Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony), and Possession of Marijuana.

Both Taylor and Abdullah were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,001 cash bond.
