ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Atlantic City’s high-tech ShotSpotter alert system led police to two man and a handgun on Tuesday.

“At 11:11 PM, patrol officers responded to the 1600 block of Wabash Avenue in reference to a ShotSpotter alert. Officer Joseph Kelly Jr. arrived in the area and observed two individuals, Quamir Beltran and Oquan Thomas, rapidly walking westbound from the immediate vicinity of the ShotSpotter notification,” police reported. “Upon attempting to stop Beltran and Thomas, they began to walk away from Officer Kelly Jr. and Officer Nicholas Grasso, who had arrived as backup. Beltran and Thomas refused the officers’ orders to stop and entered a convenience store in the 600 block of north New York Avenue. Inside the store, contact was made with Beltran and Thomas.”

Beltran was ultimately found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and a small plastic bag containing suspected cocaine. He was taken into custody without incident. Thomas was taken into custody for obstruction.

Quamir Beltran, 18, of Atlantic City was arrested for Unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a ghost gun (a handgun without a serial number), possession of CDS, and obstruction.

Oquan Thomas, 18, of Atlantic City was charged for obstruction.

Beltran was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Thomas was issued a summons pending a future court date. Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
