Suspect charged in December shooting in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – On February 2, 2022, a man wanted for his involvement in a December 2021 shooting was arrested. At 9:57 AM, members of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section arrested Jeremiah Hurt, 42, of Atlantic City. The detectives were aware that Hurt had a warrant for his arrest related to a shooting that occurred in December of 2021.

On December 10, 2021, at 6:16pm, patrol units responded to a report of a man shot in the 500 block of north Ohio Avenue. Upon officers’ arrival, they located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. The victim was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation by detectives of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit led to the identification of Hurt as the suspect. The investigation further revealed that Hurt pistol whipped and shot the victim before robbing him of cash.

ARRESTED: Jeremiah Hurt, 42, of Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Armed robbery, aggravated assault (2 counts), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and conspiracy.

Hurt was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Charges are mere accusations and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
