PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island State Police have announced a travel ban on all non-emergency vehicles will be in effect all day on Saturday as a large blizzard passes through the state.
“There is a travel ban tomorrow for motor vehicles on the State’s roadways from 8 AM – 8 PM and a travel ban for all tractor-trailers, unless carrying emergency supplies from 6 AM – 11:59 PM,” the Rhode Island State Police said Friday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
The NWS issued the following alert:
Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 18 to 24 inches with localized 30 inches possible. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. The alert includes portions of eastern and northeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island. Snow is expected to accumulate from midnight tonight to midnight EST Saturday night. Travel could be extremely difficult to impossible. Strong winds could cause tree damage. Considerable blowing and drifting snow along with near white out conditions at times. Snowfall rates to 2 to 4 inches per hour is possible at times. . Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded,stay with your vehicle.
