Cotto gets 25 to life for sexual assault against a child

Rochester, NY- On Thursday, December 2, 2021, 47-year-old Miguel Cotto was sentenced by New York State Supreme Court Justice Argento to 25 years to Life in the New York State Department of Corrections after being convicted of one count of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child for the ongoing abuse against a child under the age of 13.

This case was investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Child Protective Services, the Monroe County Crime Lab and a sexual assault nurse examiner at the University of Rochester Medical Center. This abuse occurred on or about and between November 2018 and January 2020. This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Hillary Langdon, of the Special Victims Unit. “Today’s sentence is a direct result of the young victim’s compelling and impactful testimony during this trial,” said Assistant District Attorney Hillary Langdon.

“This life sentence solidifies that this violent predator will never be able to hurt another child ever again. The strength of this victim cannot be overstated and it is the hope of the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office that the victim can use this resilience to heal from these tragic events. I want to thank the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Child Protectives Services, the Monroe County Crime Lab and the SANE nurse at University of Rochester Medical Center for helping secure today’s sentence.”
