New Jersey's COVID-19 numbers now greater than Florida's where mask and vaccine mandates are banned

TRENTON, NJ – The State of New Jersey has the most comprehensive set of executive orders geared toward fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s something New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy often touts during his frequent COVID-19 press conferences, but something is happening.

Murphy, who has sharply criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during that state’s spike in COVID-19 this summer is now finding himself on the opposite end of the COVID-19 spectrum.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 Dashboard the rate of transmission is 1.01 statewide, and that comes as New Jersey is one of the most vaccinated states in the country and Murphy still imposes strict face mask and vaccination rules for his citizens. In New Jersey, there is no COVID-19 vaccination passport yet, but Murphy students and faculty in schools must be masked up, state officials and teachers must be vaccinated and vaccination is required for most state and government facilities.

In Florida, mask and vaccine acceptance is completely voluntary, and now the rate of transmission there is just 0.53, nearly half of New Jersey’s 1.01.

New Jersey’s state infection rate is currently 41.8 infections per day per 100,000 residents. In Florida, that rate is just 12.1 infections per day per 100,000 residents.

Florida which has a population of 21.48 million has fewer total daily COVID-19 cases than New Jersey, which has a population of just 8.82 million.

The 7-day average of cases in New Jersey is 1,263 per day. In Florida with nearly two and a half times more people, it is slightly higher with 1,473 cases per day on a 7-day average.

It seems like yesterday when Murphy was calling out De Santis for his state’s COVID-19 policy. citing the Florida governor’s resistance to school face mask mandates.
