Altamonte Springs, FL – A woman was shot by her toddler during a zoom conference call. Police say the toddler got hold of an unsecured gun and accidentally discharged it, striking the mother in the head and killing her.

“On Wednesday, a member of a Zoom conference call dialed 911 when one of the participants, Shamaya Lynn, 21, appeared to be in need of help,” the Altamonte Springs Police Department said. “The person stated that during the work-related call they saw a toddler in the background and heard a noise, just before Ms. Lynn fell backward and never returned to the call.”

Officers and paramedics did their best in rendering aid to Mrs. Lynn, but she was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working closely with the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office concerning any charges which may be appropriate for the owner of the firearm.

At this point, no charges have been filed.
