Residents near Wayne, New Jersey reported seeing “two suns” in the sky above, but could it be real? What was it? A UFO? An act of god? Gobal warming?”
“”In the sky over NJ, witnessed incredibly bright light that was either stationary or slowly moving across the sky. it was almost as bright as the sun which made it difficult to look at and actually caused us to initially and momentarily mistake it for sun. recorded 25 seconds of video which shows a trail behind it. the object never made a sound and disappeared after roughly 5 minutes,” read the video’s YouTube description.
Don’t panic North Jersey, it’s just a phenomena called a ‘sun dog‘.
According to Wikipedia, “A sun dog (or sundog) or mock sun, also called a parhelion (plural parhelia) in meteorology, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that consists of a bright spot to one or both sides of the Sun. Two sun dogs often flank the Sun within a 22° halo. The sun dog is a member of the family of halos caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere. Sun dogs typically appear as a pair of subtly colored patches of light, around 22° to the left and right of the Sun, and at the same altitude above the horizon as the Sun. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but are not always obvious or bright. Sun dogs are best seen and most conspicuous when the Sun is near the horizon.”
