LAS CRUCES, NM – A Las Cruces man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Tuesday evening.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 20, New Mexico State Police were called to investigate a multi-vehicle crash on I-10 near milepost 105, west of Las Cruces.
The initial investigation indicated a 2006 Ford Explorer, driven by a 21-year-old woman female, was traveling west on I-10 near milepost 105 when the SUV sustained a tire blowout. The Ford, which had two passengers, came to a stop in the right lane and was struck by a 2018 Freightliner Commercial Motor Vehicle that was traveling westbound.
After the crash, the Freightliner overturned onto its side and was struck by two other CMVs, a 2022 Peterbilt and a 2003 Volvo, that were also traveling westbound.
The driver of the Freightliner was identified as 37-year-old Daniel Quintana of Las Cruces. He sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. All three occupants in the Ford, the 77-year-old driver of the Peterbilt and the 48-year-old driver of the Volvo were not injured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor and seat belts appear to have been utilized by all three CMV drivers. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
