The National Weather Service has confirmed another tornado has touched down in New Jersey. This time, it was in Burlington County Saturday night as thunderstorms swept through the state. The EF-1 rated tornado had peak winds between 80 and 90 miles per hour.
The damage from the twister which touched down in Columbus at 10:30 pm lasted for about 11 minutes and traveled 7.9 miles before dissipating near Jacobstown. It left a swath of damage nearly 8 football fields in width, causing down trees and broken branches in its wake.
This was the third tornado confirmed by the National Weather Service in New Jersey in 2021. On July 9th an EF-1 tornado with winds as high as 100 mph touched down in Cape May County near Woodbine at around 2:40 am. Later, at around 3:30 am, a second twister was confirmed in Little Egg Harbor Township.
Both cause minor storm-related damage to trees and limbs.
