JACKSONVILLE, FL – On Saturday night, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Deputy was struck by a passing car during a routine traffic stop. Today, Detective Ernest Wilson is recovering from his injuries.
“While on the scene of a traffic crash involving a fatality, one of our officers was struck by a vehicle after the driver entered a closed section of roadway,” the JSO said in a statement. “Detective Ernest Wilson, a 20 year veteran of JSO, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries where he remains in critical but stable condition at this time.”
Today, the department gave a status update on his recovery.
“As Detective Wilson has continued to improve throughout the day, we have been advised his health status has been upgraded by his doctors. He is said to be alert, responsive and in great spirits,” the department said. “Thank you to everyone for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. We will continue to update when possible.”
Sheriff Mike Williams had this to say, “We stand with his family in sending him strength in this fight and pray for a full recovery from these injuries. We are grateful for the community’s support as we await further reports on his progress”.
Following a roadside investigation, the driver of the vehicle that struck Detective Wilson was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.
