14-year-old shot dead in Columbus, city’s 18th homicide of 2021

COLUMBUS, OH – On January 24, 2021 at 4:08 pm, officers were called to the area of 5334 Hazelwood Rd. on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 14-year-old Dayvion Jones suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Jones was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:37 pm.

Jones was walking in 5300 block of Hazelwood Rd. when he was confronted by a group of males in a stolen SUV.

During the confrontation, one of the males produced a handgun that shot Jones, fatally wounding him. The males then fled in the stolen SUV which they wrecked, in a single-vehicle crash, near the intersection of Tamarack & Forest Village. The males then fled from the SUV on foot.
