Tianjin, China – On Thursday, health officials in Tianjin, China notified the public about batches of locally produced ice cream containing the COVID-19 virus.  According to the Municipal Prevention and Control Headquarters, the Jinnan District Disease Control Department found 3 ice-cream sample test results when conducting a new coronavirus nucleic acid test on ice cream samples sent by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd. were positive. As of 14:00 on January 14, the company has been fully sealed and controlled, personnel and goods are prohibited from entering and exiting, the inventory of epidemic-related goods has been sealed, and the outgoing goods have been tracked.

After investigation, the batch of food was 3 chocolate ice cream (batch number 20210105), strawberry ice cream (batch number 20210106) and taro ice cream sent by Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd. on January 12 and 13 respectively.

On January 14, after review by the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the nucleic acid test result was still positive. At the time, 1,588 boxes of chocolate flavored ice cream with batch number 20210105 (6 boxes per box) are produced and 304.8 boxes in stock; strawberry-flavored ice cream with batch number 20210106 is produced 1627 boxes (6 boxes per box) and 697 boxes in stock; and taro flavor with lot number 20210107 Ice cream, 1621 boxes (6 boxes per box) are produced, and 1250.8 boxes are stocked.

At this time all of the COVID-19 positive ice cream has been tracked and secured.

“Preliminary epidemiological investigations showed that the raw materials for the production of this batch of goods included imported foods such as New Zealand milk powder and Ukrainian whey powder; the employees of the companies involved in direct contact with the goods carried out regular nucleic acid tests on January 7 and 10, respectively. The results are all negative,” the agency said.

By midday, the company had been fully sealed and controlled, and personnel and goods are prohibited from entering and leaving; the inventory of epidemic-related goods has been sealed, and the goods out of the warehouse have been tracked; all employees of the company had been quarantined and quarantined.

Up to now, 1,662 relevant employees of the company have all been controlled and tested, of which 700 have a negative nucleic acid test result, and the remaining results are yet to be released.
