GOOSE CRREEK, SC – Police in Goose Creek have reported 7 family members have been taken to the hospital, including young children, two which are listed in critical condition after an Amtrak train struck their truck.
Police here said on Saturday, at approximately 10:34 pm., officers of the Goose Creek Police Department responded to reports of a train vs. vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of Red Bank Road and US Highway 52.
Upon arrival officers did learn that an Amtrak train had struck a GMC Sierra truck. After a preliminary investigation, and interviewing witnesses, it was determined that the pickup truck had driven around the safety arms, which were in the down position.
There were two adult females in the truck, along with five juveniles, ages 13, 11, 11, 8, and 5. Three of the occupants were ejected from the collision. Six of the occupants were transported by ems to local area hospitals. Family members took the seventh occupant to the hospital.
At present, two of the children are listed in critical condition. The rest of the juveniles and the adults are all in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Goose Creek Police Department.
