Loves Park Public Works Employee Saves Woman from Burning Duplex

LOVES PARK, IL – You can call it just being a human being, but in this day and age, many would just drive by without getting involved, but not one Public Works employee here in Loves Park.  On Friday, January 1, 2021, while plowing his route , Loves Park Public Works employee, Russ Caveny, came across a duplex, located at Meadows Edge and Windsor Road, with heavy smoke coming from the roof. Russ stopped and called for emergency services, then proceeded to see if there was any occupants inside. Russ was able to alert an elderly woman who was still inside one of the duplexes and assisted her, and her cat, from the burning structure.

“The City of Loves Park would like to thank Russ for going above and beyond the call of duty in his quick actions and willingness to help potentially save the life of one of our citizens.
We would also like to thank David Jacobson, Loves Park Public Works Foreman, who also checked other duplexes in the vicinity and assisted getting the elderly woman into a Police vehicle to stay warm,” the city said. “We are very thankful for Mr. Caveny and Mr. Jacobson. Congratulations gentlemen, you should be extremely proud. The City of Loves Park is very proud and glad to have such dedicated employees.”
