EAST CLEVELAND, OH – Police in East Cleveland flagged a Pontiac Grand-Am with fake license plates driving recklessly on Sunday. The drivers of the car both gave chase.
Police said that on December 13, 2020, at approximately 7:48 pm, officers from East Cleveland Police Department’s A Platoon attempted a traffic stop on a red Pontiac Grand Am for operating with no headlights, fictitious tags, and reckless operation near Euclid Ave. and Lee Blvd. The driver fled at a low rate of speed as he traveled down Terrace Rd. After reaching Euclid Ave., a second unit joined the pursuit. The driver of the vehicle decided that it had not snowed in some time, and proceeded to throw a bag of a white, powdery substance from his vehicle into the roadway.
The Grand Am then struck a vehicle at Euclid Ave. and Highland Rd. Officers then exited their vehicles to perform a felony stop, however, the driver of the Grand-Am reversed, ramming an ECPD cruiser, and continued to flee.
Speeds reached approximately 90mph at Euclid Ave. and Tungsten Rd. when the driver lost control of the Grand Am, causing it to roll multiple times and travel through an electrical pole. Both driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
The female passenger of the vehicle was found to have an active felony warrant with Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and will be transported to the county jail after medical treatment.
