TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has formed a coalition with the governors of seven states, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont to ban interstate youth hockey tournaments.

“We do this with a heavy heart, but we have to do this,” Murphy said, thanking the governors of those states. “Bless you for your support of and partnership in this regional approach to interstate competitions.”

Murphy said he predicts the group of states joining his ice hockey ban will grow to other states.

“We know that there’s been transmission linked to youth hockey team activities and with numbers rising across our region this is an important step to mitigate further community spread and protect public health,” Murphy said.
