Three Teens Caught With Guns Driving Wrong Way Down One Way Street in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Springfield Police Officers recover three firearms from three suspects after a traffic stop at approximately 1:10 am Sunday morning on the 100 block of Washburn Street.

Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Washburn Street for a ShotSpotter Activation. Responding officers observed a car in the area drive the wrong way down a one-way street and conducted a traffic stop. Officers detained all three occupants pending an investigation.
The rear seat passenger, a 17-year-old from Holyoke, had a firearm in the front pocket of his sweater. The driver, Alex Nieves, had a long rifle revolver in his waistband. The front seat passenger, Joerick Johnson, had a loaded firearm in his waistband. Mr. Johnson later spit  on an officer before being transferred to the Ludlow and an additional charge was added.
19-year-old Joerick Johnson of Wolcott Street in Holyoke is charged with:
• Carrying a Firearm without a License
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
• Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while have an Active Warrant
• Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
• Possession of a Class B Drug (2 Counts)
• Assault & Battery on a Police Officer
• Default Warrant – Westfield District Court
18-year-old Alex Nieves of Undine Circle is charged with:
• Carrying a Firearm without a License
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
The juvenile’s name and charges will not be released to his age.
