Two Injured in Stafford Township Crash

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 4:36 PM, the Stafford Township Police Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on Rt. 72 at Breakers Drive.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Jeep Cherokee being driven by Joseph Sanzari 67 years old of Barnegat, N.J., was traveling east on Rt. 72 approaching Breakers Drive. As Sanzari approached Breakers Drive, he attempted to make a left-hand turn into the Circle K, which is located at the intersection.

At this time, his vehicle was struck by a Hyundai Elantra being driven by Devan Thatcher 29 years old of Forked River, N.J., which was traveling west on Rt. 72. Thatcher’s vehicle then traveled into the eastbound lanes of Rt. 72, and her vehicle struck a Mercedes Benz being driven by Robert Anzidei 63 years old of Maple Shade, N.J.

As a result of this crash, Thatcher and Anzidei were flown to the Atlantic City Trauma Center for further medical evaluation. All parties, except Thatcher, are believed to be wearing their seat belts at the time of this crash.

Both Thatchers and Anzideis vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed form the scene.

Traffic on Route 72 was directed through the scene for approximately an hour.

This collision is still under investigation by Patrolman Allen Jillson.
