Governor Murphy Makes Jackson Councilman Chairman of SDA Board of Directors

JANUARY 11, 2019 – TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) is pleased to announce that Robert A. Nixon has been named Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Mr. Nixon has served as Acting Chairman of the SDA Board since June 2018. Acting was removed from his title by Governor Phil Murphy in late December 2018, pursuant to N.J.S.A 52:18A-237. He was nominated to serve as a member of the SDA Board of Directors by Governor Corzine in 2010. Since 2012, he has also served as Chair of the Audit Committee.

“It is my honor and privilege to serve as the Chair of the SDA Board of Directors as I strongly believe in the Authority’s mission of building state-of-the-art schools for hundreds of thousands of New Jersey school children,” said Nixon. “Together with the new leadership of the SDA, I am confident that this Board will continue to positively impact the lives of students and the surrounding communities.”

“I applaud Governor Phil Murphy for recognizing that Rob Nixon has been a strong acting chairman for our organization since June 2018,” said SDA CEO Lizette Delgado Polanco. “In my time as CEO at SDA, I have enjoyed working cooperatively with Mr. Nixon and the rest of the SDA board to oversee Authority operations and school projects that are helping to improve the quality of life and quality of education for New Jersey school children.”


Robert A. Nixon is the Director of Government Affairs for the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association, New Jersey’s largest law enforcement organization. Mr. Nixon is also the Founder and President of the government affairs firm State House Strategies. He has been a government affairs professional in New Jersey since 1995 with a specialty in the legislative process.

He received a Masters of Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Politics from Saint Joseph’s University. Mr. Nixon is an Adjunct Professor at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches the graduate level course on Government Relations. He was named “Teacher of the Year” at Fels in 2013 and 2016.
