Congressman Joins Township to Remember 9/11

TOMS RIVER-17 years after the terrorist attack against America on 9/11/01, Toms River Township held their annual memorial ceremony this morning. In attendance was Congressman Tom MacArthur.

The event was hosted by Toms River Volunteer Fire Company #1 in conjunction with Toms River Township District 1 and 2 Fire Officer’s Association held their annual ceremony in memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the 9/11 attacks in 2001.

Congressman Tom MacArthur, Freeholders Ginny Haines and Gerry Little, Councilmen Mo Hill, Brian Kubiel, Councilwomen Laurie Huryk and Maria Maruca and Deputy Chief Mike Brosnan were among those in attendance.

“Today, 17 years later, take a day to remember the day that changed us forever,” MacArthur said. ” I was in New York on September 11, 2001 when terrorists tore a hole in the New York City skyline and took the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans.

“There are countless stories of heroism and devastation from New York City, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 that I will never forget. Too many felt this loss — a soulmate, parents, children, siblings, and friends all gone far too soon. That same day, our first responders ran towards danger, instead of away from it. Their bravery must never be forgotten,” he added.  “America stood strong after 9/11, and we still stand strong today. As we came together then and overcame a great evil inflicted on our nation, we must come together today to face every challenge in front of us, including caring for those suffering from 9/11 related illnesses.”

This morning, MacArthur joined Ocean County Freeholder Director Gerry Little in Toms River to lay a wreath in remembrance of those we lost on September 11, 2001 and since to 9/11 related diseases.
