Howell Officials Discuss Mandated Affordable Housing with State Senate President

HOWELL – Howell Township Mayor William Gotto and Deputy Mayor Robert Nicastro recently met with New Jersey Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney on Feb. 18 to discuss the mandated affordable housing law.

Township officials expressed concerned that the court-ordered compliance for affordable housing will continue to deteriorate the township’s overall quality of life. The two also discussed Howell’s plans to include additional projects to satisfy this mandate, which has sharply divided the community over the past year.

Meanwhile, officials are introducing an ordinance amendment to allow for affordable housing occupancy preferences for low-to-moderate income veterans who served in time of war or other emergency. The amendment allows for occupancy
