Teen girls arrested after attempted carjacking in Northeast DC

Washington, DC – Two teenage girls have been arrested in connection with an attempted carjacking in Northeast Washington after police say they confronted a woman sitting inside her vehicle and demanded her keys.

The incident occurred April 8 at approximately 2:03 p.m. in the 700 block of 11th Street Northeast, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators said the suspects approached the victim while she was seated inside her vehicle, opened the car door, and demanded the keys.

Police said the victim fled the scene while still holding onto her keys, preventing the suspects from taking the vehicle.

The suspects then ran from the area on foot.

Following an investigation, MPD announced that two juvenile suspects were arrested Monday pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order.

The suspects were identified only as a 17-year-old girl from Southwest Washington and a 14-year-old girl from Southeast Washington.

Both juveniles were charged with attempted unarmed carjacking.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
