The Toms River Tornadoes win the Readington 14U Father’s Day Challenge

READINGTON-The Toms River Tornadoes 14 and under Girls Fastpitch Softball team came away with a Championship on Sunday in the 2018 Father’s Day Challenge in Readington. The Warren-Hunterdon-West Morris ASA hosted a great tournament, and the fans were treated to some great games.

After pool play on Saturday, the Monroe Thunder ’03 team claimed the number 1 seed, while the Jersey Impact team was number 2. The Tornadoes were the number 3 seed, while the NJ Insanity was number 4, and Beacon Xtreme was the 5th seed.

In early morning play on Sunday, Beacon Xtreme beat NJ Insanity 6-5 to advance to the Semi-Finals against the Monroe Thunder ’03. Monroe defeated Beacon Xtreme 10-4 to advance to the finals.


In the other Semi-Final game, the Jersey Impact team hosted the Toms River Tornadoes, in a tight game, with the Tornadoes prevailing in a walk-off win in the final inning. Heading into the final inning, Jersey Impact led the game 6-3, but the Tornadoes rallied back and scored 4 runs to claim a 7-6 victory, and a spot in the Finals versus the Monroe Thunder ’03.

In the finals, the Toms River Tornadoes jumped out to an early 6-1 lead after three innings, and despite a valiant effort, the Tornadoes held on to win the Championship by a score of 7-5.

This is the second tournament win this year for this first-year 14u team out of Toms River. Their first was in April at the Lacey Calm Before the Storm Tournament. With several other tournaments ahead of them, there is no telling how far they will go.

Congratulations to the Toms River Tornadoes 14u team on their Championship, and to the Monroe Thunder ’03 team on earning the Runner-Up honors. Both teams played with heart and class to the very end.
