Man Charged After Robbing, Slashing Gas Station Attendant

BRICK-On 10/13/17 at 5:02pm Officers were dispatched to the Exxon at 141 Drum Point Rd for a reported robbery.

Officers were advised that a black male approximately 6 feet tall wearing a black ball cap, gray sweatshirt, and tan camo pants had just robbed the gas attendant.


Upon Officers arrival, it was determined that the attendant had a laceration to his hand in the thumb region. The attendant stated that he was robbed and cut by a knife. He stated the suspect approached him while he was in his attendant booth and told him to give him all the money and displayed a knife. During the altercation, the attendant was cut by the blade in the area of his thumb. The suspect acquired the money from the attendant but as he began to leave the money was dropped in the process. The suspect immediately picked up the money and then ran eastbound on Drum Point Rd running through the Encore Dental parking lot.

The scene was secured and closed to the public while Officers checked video surveillance and interviewed witnesses.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit responded to the scene in an attempt to perform a K-9 track.

Brick Police EMS responded to the scene to begin treatment for the injury and the attendant was transported to Ocean Medical Center for further treatment to his injuries.

While Officer Mark Storch was checking the surrounding area he located a black male matching the physical description of the suspect on Katie Lynn Court near Circle Drive. The subject was sweating profusely however his clothing was not exactly matching the description given. This subject was identified as Zakry Shivers, 24 year-old black, male from Rahway NJ.

During the on-scene investigation, a resident from the Cherry Quay development called Police Headquarters and advised that a black male was observed in the woods near Cherry Quay Rd changing his clothes. Officers responded to the wooded area and located the clothing in the woods that the suspect had been wearing that matched the description.

Det. Leskowski responded to the scene and was briefed by Officers what had transpired.
Upon positive witness identifications, Shivers was placed into custody by Det. Leskowski and was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.

Zakry Shivers was charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Burglary armed with a Weapon.
Shivers was transported and housed in the Ocean County Jail under the guidelines of bail reform.
